What Happens at Your Bridal Appointment?

If you’ve never been wedding dress shopping before, you might be wondering exactly what happens when you walk through our door.

First of all – don’t worry. You don’t need to know what you’re doing. That’s my job! 🤍

From the moment you arrive at The Bridal Boutique Baildon, I want you to feel relaxed, comfortable and excited about what’s ahead.

First things first… get comfy

You’ll be greeted at the door with a friendly smile and welcomed into the boutique.

Once you’re settled, we’ll offer you a drink – tea, coffee, water or, when the time is right, perhaps a little glass of Prosecco. 🥂

Then, before we even think about trying on a dress, we’ll sit down and have a good chat.

Is this your very first bridal appointment? Have you already visited other boutiques? Have you got a particular style in mind – or absolutely no idea at all?

Both are completely fine.

If you’ve been saving dresses on Pinterest, please show me. If you’ve spotted something you love on our website or social media, show me. Equally, you can walk through the door having never looked at a wedding dress in your life.

We’ll talk about the styles and shapes you’re drawn to, but I’ll also want to know something even more important – how do you want to feel on your wedding day?

Maybe you want something romantic and timeless. Perhaps you’d like to feel a little sexy. You might prefer more coverage and modesty. Or perhaps you simply want to put a dress on, look in the mirror and think, WOW – I feel amazing.

That conversation helps me get to know you, rather than simply putting you into dresses.

Then we hit the rails!

You’re absolutely welcome to browse the dresses with me, but I’ll take you through the rails, and I will pull the dresses for you, rather than leaving you to battle with them yourself.

Wedding dresses are beautiful things – and when lace, beading and embellishments get together on a rail, they have a habit of clinging onto one another!

I’ll show you gowns I think could work for you and, if anything catches your eye, just point it out and I’ll pull it from the rail so we can have a proper look. :)

We’ll usually begin with around six or seven dresses.

There’s a reason I don’t pull twenty dresses straight away.

As you start trying gowns on, I’m listening to everything you tell me:

“I love the neckline on this one…”

“I prefer the skirt on the last one…”

“I love this shape, but I’d like something softer…”

That’s when my knowledge of the collection really comes into play. I can head back to the rails and find another gown that brings those different elements together.

Your appointment evolves as we discover what you love.

Time to try them on

When we head into the fitting area, I’ll ask you to undress down to whatever you feel comfortable wearing.

We do recommend trying your dresses without a bra, simply because our wedding gowns already have cups and support built into them. It also gives you a much better idea of how the dress will actually look and feel.

Nude underwear is ideal if you have it – but please don't panic if you turn up in bright pink pants! Honestly, it really doesn't matter. 😄

For some gowns, your underwear won't be visible anyway.

And please don't feel self-conscious.

If you'd prefer me to turn around while you step into the dress, I absolutely will. Some brides want that privacy; others couldn't care less by dress number two!

Whatever makes you comfortable is what we'll do.

And then… the reveal 🤍

Once you're in your dress, I'll ask you to face the mirror while I fasten you in.

This means I can see what's happening at the front as well as the back and make sure everything is sitting exactly where it should. If our sample gown is a little too big, I can carefully clip and pin it so you can see how it would look when fitted correctly to you.

Then comes the exciting bit.

We open the curtain and you step onto the podium.

Our fitting area sits right beside your guests, with comfortable sofas surrounding it. So even while you're getting into your dress, your family and friends are literally just outside the curtain.

You can hear them chatting and laughing, they're close by if you need a little reassurance, and you don't have to disappear to another part of the boutique and make a long walk back into the room.

When that curtain opens, they're right there waiting for you.

For gowns with a beautiful statement train, we also have plenty of space within the boutique to spread it out properly and let you see the full effect.

Most importantly – come as YOU

You don't need the perfect underwear.

You don't need to arrive knowing your dress shape.

You don't need to know bridal terminology.

You don't need to have your wedding-day hair and makeup done.

And you definitely don't need to have everything figured out before you walk through our door.

Just come as yourself.

Your appointment is about trying beautiful dresses, discovering what makes you feel incredible and hopefully having a lot of fun along the way.

I'll guide you through the whole experience, keep you comfortable and help you make sense of all those gorgeous dresses.
